Thursday Thirteen a Day Late...

Yes, I'm aware that it's Friday. It's been a rough week... Besides, you know what they say - better late than never, right? I found this on http://2nd-cup-of-coffee.blogspot.com/ (one of my favorite blogs) and thought I'd give it a whirl. You should try it too and if you do, please let me know because I want to see your answers too.

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? I prefer wrapping paper. It says that you took the time to prepare your gift to present to your loved one. And who doesn't love tearing into, or watching someone else tear into, a nicely wrapped gift? That being said, if time doesn't permit or it's an odd shaped gift, then I'm not above going the gift bag route!

2. Real tree or Artificial? Real - without a doubt. Nothing says Christmas like the fresh smell of pine wafting through the house. Mmm... It's a little more work in terms of maintenance and later clean up, but hey, it's Christmas!
3. When do you put up the tree? Depends on if we do a real one or an artificial one. For artificial, we can put it up right after Thanksgiving. If it's real we try to wait until the 2nd, sometimes the 3rd week of December....
4. Favorite gift received as a child? There are two that I remember distinctly. One was a Chrissy doll with the hair you could make longer or shorter - loved, loved, loved her! The other was a record player. It looked sort of like a small briefcase. It was red on the bottom and the top was different colored intertwining circles... psychedelic 60s/70s kind of stuff. I loved that and played it till it gave out!
5. Hardest person to buy for? All the men in my family. They rarely "need" anything, so I have no clue what to get them. I mean how many wallets, handkerchiefs and socks can one man stand?! I'm as tired of giving them as they are of getting them and I have a sneaking suspicion that they don't get used...
6. Easiest person to buy for? LOL!!! I'll have to go with Linda and say... ME! I always know exactly what I need/want. :o)
7. Do you have a nativity scene? We do! It's been around since i was little. It's a wonder it survived because I was forever trying to drag the wise men off the play with my Barbies... C'mon all those women and ONE Ken! I was only trying to even things out a little...

8. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? Funny, I can't seem to recall any bad gifts... I'm guessing it would have had something to do with peanuts/peanut butter which I'm DEATHLY allergic to... I think it was a lovely box of peanut brittle that I promptly re-gifted...
9. Favorite Christmas Movie? Hands down it's "A Christmas Story." Yes, I'm the one who watches the 24 hour marathon every year... I also like "It's a Wonderful Life" and "Miracle on 34th Street." Oh! and all the animated ones I grew up with: A Charlie Brown Christmas, The Year Without a Santa Claus, Frosty the Snowman, Santa Claus is Coming to Town... you know the ones.

10. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? CANDY CANES!!!! Just like candy corn/pumpkins in October, I consume candy canes to the point of nausea every December... I don't know what it is, but I just can't seem to get enough. I'm thinking they're laced with something...

11. Lights on the tree? Love them!!! I love the multi colored ones. They just liven everything up. They also bring back memories of my dad checking the lights from the previous year. This was back when the bulbs were humongous! He's be all tangled up in lights and they'd be blinking all around him... funny, funny stuff!!

12. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer? Of course! Rudolph, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet Cupid, Donner, and Blitzen.
13. Favorite ornament theme or color? I love the star that goes on top of the tree. We had one when I was little that I was convinced broke off from the North Star itself!!! It was so beautiful. Gold with all different colored 'jewels' in it... hard to describe, but I'd sit and stare at it for hours... Don't know what ever happened to it...
